Summer Chill Jazz is a collection of jazz works written in the early ‘70’s for my jazz bands. I was studying to be a concert pianist at the Elder Conservatorium of the University of Adelaide so the technique I had was more than adequate with the ability to improvise with other Adelaide musicians namely Brenton Holmes (drums) David Colton (jazz guitar), Larry Golder (bass guitar), Mark Rosenburg (drums) and myself (keyboards and piano).

Combined, we played at school lunchtimes, the Scott theatre, and the music department 11th floor Schulz building of Adelaide Teacher’s College. We also performed in a shed on the property of an Adelaide Hills farm for an end-of-year party for 200 graduates.

For most of these performances, I recorded them on my Sony reel-reel tape recorder. I recently had access to those tapes, and this album is the result.

These aged tapes were inputted into the latest music technology with a selected instrumentation of a piano trio, Hammond organ, vibraphone, trumpet or saxophone solos.

The exact notes and tempos including chords are replicated in an exciting rendition of those early tapes. The project was exciting and rewarding and I’m proud to present it for you to enjoy for another 50 years.
